Recovering lost data from a drive

How to recover lost data?

One of my neighbors came to me a few days ago with a problem… he lost his CV that he had on a pendrive due to a Windows virus and he had no backup. So I said I would try to recover the file for him. A quick Google and I chose foremost primarily because it is small, fast and easy to use. Since this was a file recovery operation, I decided to minimize the risk of the deleted file being replaced by creating a disk image of the pen drive.

dd if = / dev / sdb of = recover.iso

And simply:

sudo apt-get install foremost

and then…

foremost -t doc recover.iso

The “-t doc” parameter tells you to search only for Microsoft Word files. About a minute later, the job was done and the files were back. What is worth paying attention to in such a case, if you accidentally deleted the file, then it is a very bad idea to continue using your computer. Turn off your computer immediately and run some Linux live CD.
